University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: UB-s09. This large, panoramic photograph is dated 28 August 1937. The photograph of battleships moored in the Huangpu River, Shanghai, was taken by an, as yet unidentified, photographer from the Union Building, No.3 the Bund (formerly no.4), looking across the river towards Pudong. The cupolas of the Shanghai Club can be seen on the right. The photograph was previously framed, with a descriptive panel below the photographic print. The picture was owned by William Allison Palmer Sr. (1918-1994), who served in the U.S. Navy from 1935 until he retired in October 1955.
