Translation of the caption in Chinese on the back of the print (1938年夏，晋察冀边区钞票印刷厂): Summer 1938, Jinchaji Border Region Banknote Printing Plant. This photograph was reproduced in ‘The Unknown War, North China 1937-1945' by Michael Lindsay (London, 1975), with the caption: Printing new Chin Ch'a Chi currency. This kept out the National Government notes which the Japanese had got in exchange for their new Federal Reserve Bank notes. See ML02-d054.
