This photograph was taken during the fires described on page 63 of ‘Five Months of War’ (a book containing photographs by North-China Daily News photographers and from many other sources, and cartoons by Sapajou, published by the North-China Daily News & Herald Limited, Shanghai, 1938). A mixed group of uniformed services, which may also include French Vietnamese. The groups appear to be separated by barbed wire.
