Lacks, George

George LACKS (1910-1960) was born in New Jersey, USA and raised in Buenos Aires. In the early 1930s, Lacks and his wife Joy founded ‘Lacks News Photos - Camera Journalists’, a photojournalistic and film processing business, at 160 Avenue Edward VII (now Yanan Dong Lu), Shanghai. 'Lacks News Photos' developed Malcolm Rosholt’s negatives. Rosholt wrote: “George was a freelancer but after he got a flash thing for his Leica he made a good living shooting pictures like this [i.e. Ro-n1201]”. Rosholt did not have a flash gun, “only George Lacks had THAT, the smartass.”! Lacks later became a Life magazine photographer. Portrait of George Lacks: Ro-n0898.
