Frith & Co., Francis

Francis FRITH (1822-1898) was an English photographer, well known for his photographs of Egypt and Palestine, 1850s. In 1858, he founded F. Frith and Company, to photograph topographic and touristic views in the British Isles and around the world. This became the largest photographic printing business in England, with an extensive inventory of domestic and overseas views taken by Frith, or commissioned by the company, or acquired through the purchase of negatives. Francis Frith died in 1898 in Cannes, France. The family business lasted until 1971, producing post cards etc.
