University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Sw09-056. From a dark blue cloth ‘Film Negative Album’,12 cm x 16 cm. This album (Sw09) was labelled ‘P2/VII’ on the back cover. This is a photograph of John Samuel Swire (1825-1898) and the photograph may well have been taken at Leighton House, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, England, shortly before his death. The photographer, George Warren Swire (son of John Samuel Swire), would have been a teenager, and this is one of his early photographic efforts.
