University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Os01-121. Photo from an album (UoB reference Os01) kept in the School of Oriental and African Studies Archives, London (SOAS reference MS 380 876/1). ‘Aladdin’ is a folk tale in ‘The Book of One Thousand and One Nights’ (‘The Arabian Nights’).  Although Aladdin is a Middle Eastern tale, the story is set in China.  It has long been a popular pantomime.  Photograph probably taken in Foochow (Fuzhou).
