University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: NA16-008. Image from an album in The National Archives referenced as ‘HONG KONG 3. Views of Hong Kong from the 1860s to the 1920s' (CO 1069-446). This was the first City Hall building in Hong Kong and was used as such from 1869 until 1933. It was officially opened by the Duke of Edinburgh during his visit to Hong Kong in November 1869. The building was designed by the French architect Achille-Antoine Hermitte (1840-c.1870) who also designed the Governor’s Palace in Saigon.
