University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Mo02-240. Rachel Morrison's father, George Nicoll, was born in 1848 in Cargill, Perthshire, Scotland and died in 1934 in Yantai (Chefoo). He married his first wife, Christina Milne (1850-1874), in Monikie, Angus, Scotland in February 1874. They had a son (John Carr Nicoll) in November 1874. Christina Nicoll died in December 1874, presumably from complications after childbirth. George left for China early the following year, leaving John in the care of relations. George married Mary Ann Horland in September 1879 and she died some years later without issue. In 1910, George, aged 62 married Rachel Carlyle Anderson (1881-1948), when she was 28 years old. They had three daughters, the youngest of whom was Rachel, who married Ian Morrison.
