University of Bristol – Historical Photographs of China reference number: HR01-025.  The passenger/cargo steam ship Circe was named after the goddess of magic and built by the Taikoo Dockyard & Engineering Company, Hong Kong, for the Ocean Steam Ship Company.  She was launched in 1912 and operated out of Singapore on the Blue Funnel Line.  The Circe was requisitioned by the Royal Navy in 1939 and named HMS Circe.  Later the ship served in the Royal Australian Navy as HMAS Medea.  See Sw17-001 and Sw17-002.
