Darwent, Minister of the Union Church, was also a photographer and the author of a photographer-friendly guidebook to Shanghai: "Shanghai: a handbook for travellers and residents to the chief objects of interest in and around the foreign settlement and native city" (1904). https://archive.org/details/cu31924023217825. This view is 'from Boat House'. The Boat House was beside the creek, near the junction of Soochow Road (Nansuzhou Lu) with Yuen Ming Yuen Road (Yuanmingyuan Lu). H.
